Could the boat be listing to the right? Like off balanced. I've seen this when I fill starboard livewell and Port fuel is empty and me only on starboard side it tilts the boat to the right a little and the transducer tilt down a little. If you balance the boat it reduces the darkness. Other thing is to raise right side of the transducer so it's more level.

Have a question for you guys. I posted this in the BBC Humminbird forum but I thought I would ask here too ( Doug you probably saw it over there smile ).

Just bought a 898 and a Ram mount to put it on by the driver console. My question is should I use bolts or screws to attach the Ram mount base to the fiberglass?

Thanks in advance

I went to Lowes and got phillips head stainless steel bolts that fit flush into the Ram mount. For the underside I picked up locking washers and nuts, also stainless steel. I used blue locktite just in case.

I took all the mounts with me because I also needed the short bolts that hold the HB mount to the Ram 11" mount.

Anyone here run a 898 or 998 on the Trolling motor? How do you like it? Any pics on the mounting of the unit? Thanks

I run a 998 on the trolling motor. I'm using the SI transducer, was able to find a thread on how to route the wiring on the notch of the I-pilot. Also ran the Hydrowave wiring on the same spot and it's working perfectly right now. I'm using a Ram mount for the 998. I'll try to post a pic or two in a bit.

Side imaging works well, just expect some zig zag lines when you're moving the trolling motor side to side.

I first used a 798ci SI at the bow with a trolling motor mounted SI transducer. Now I have a 1198c SI unit at the bow.
Doug has a 998c SI on the bow of his Skeeter. We use RAM mounts.
This is my setup, Doug has posted his before.
I am looking at this unit about 95% of the time I am on the boat and using this view.

Thanks. No issues with the bouncing on the bow?

This is what I had to do to compensate for my fat arse. grin

Relocated the transducer to the center of the boat. Did not help. This problem does not happen all of the time? What's next?

I use a 998c the last 2 Years and the previous 2 years I ran 898c on the bow. I like the smaller height for the way I fish.

Here is an image from SI on the Trolling Motor while I was Hybrid Huntin last week.

Here's the fish in the image

Please Read,

This thread has been here for some time with over 80,000 hits and has been very beneficial to many members of this forum. A big Thank you goes out to Josh (aka) jsplinter for the initial thread and to Doug Vahrenberg http://www.dougvahrenberg.com/Videos.html for his expertise and sharing his knowledge as well. Again it is a wealth of good information here.

I wanted to put in a plug in hopes that members will look to the sponsors here on the forum for great buys in the Humminbird line up. I have been assisting the members of this forum for some time now and have talked and met with many a great people and made many friends along the way. I have sponsored many special events by donating product for good causes. (currently the TFF & THF cover photo contest) http://www.outdoorsites.net/photo_contest/

You can visit this next link to see that I have been true to the members here and work hard to earn business. "I do offer great deals but my record is not based on how many items I can sell. It is based on trust and how well you are taken care of before, during and after the sale" http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt..._reports#UNREAD good trade/bad trade reports.
I understand there are other choices in where you can purchase and simply wanted to share with everyone that sponsorship/supporter is a key component with the TFF so let me know how I can assist you and I will give you great customer service you deserve guaranteed with quality products and support you've come to expect from Humminbird. Some times saving a buck on top of a already good deal can come back and bite you.

Peace & good fishing for years to come,

Support a Sponsor and buy with confidence...

Your Exactly correct David... I hope that members of this forum realize we get to enjoy and learn on TFF because of those that support the forum. Please give them the opportunity to earn your business and help them in providing support and sponsorship to keep "The Lights On" here at TFF. I always recommend checking with those that the support the websites that allow us all to learn from others without supporters and sponsors we would not have this opportunity.
