2 singles but a single Big Tuna would cover both.you could fish together and if you go alone can move seat to center position and fish alone. but you may also enjoy paddling separately together. I recommend test paddling both to see what yall would like.

Two singles give you guys more versatility. Don't get me wrong, tandems are fun, but singles allow for more types of float options.

but if your wife likes to be with you and only read or if you have a small child a tandem would be fun. I don't think I would only have a tandem though for me.

I have a Native Ultimate 14.5 Tandem that I've used singly and with a partner, both fishing and just paddling around. Two singles would be better for both activities, I think.
I've also spent a lot of fun time fishing with a buddy out of a 16' canoe, but that's a different beast than a kayak.

One consideration is how equally matched you guys are for speed an endurance. If there is a big difference tandem can be a big benefit. Tandem is also handy traveling long distances as you guys can alternate paddling.
I'd say in most cases though two boats would be better.

The answer here is obvious, buy two singles AND a tandem lol

Two singles! More versatile and you can take a friend when the wife does not want to go. Everyone I know that got a tandem for this same reason ended up getting singles later.

If neither one of you are experienced in kayaking, then I would recommend renting them...singles one day, tandem the next. You will quickly find out if it is your cup of tea so to speak. LOTS of people buy on impulse, use it a couple of times, then sell at a loss...don't be that guy unless you have money to burn (in that case please PM me LOL)

Two singles. There will be times when you want to go areas that she doesn't want to go while your together. There might also be times when you want to go by yourself and don't need a big kayak to have to deal with.

I lean towards recommending 2 singles but it's best to get your feedback.
Mariner Sails offers demos on Thursdays and you gan get a feel for both options. If that sounds like something you'd like to try, contact Mike at 972-241-1498 (he's off on Monday) and he'll be happy to set you up!

Think of it this way... would you rather have two individual bicycles or a bicycle built for two. The Bike built for two would be fun for the first few hours but then it would probably get old. just my 2 cents ...
I swear I caught so many fish that the water level went down!

I love my wife and she loves me, but we also love our own different kayaks. I have mine set up for fishing and she have her's for sight seeing. If she wants to go in a cove while I'm fishing, she can.
