Then: fishing was for the outdoor recreation of the sport
Today: fishing is highly competitive, both pro circuit and locally.

50s.......Solid fiberglass rod with a tip and two guides..weight just under one pound! Now.......Spun wondermaterial weighing TWO grams with 15 eyelets! (where's thuh beef?!!  )

50s........Real silver finish on spoons with cut glass ruby eyes, for about a buck. Now........Same thing except the cost per spoon is about 8 bucks!

50s.........Tackle boxes that had enough space to carry half your garage, weighed more than a small car, held 5,000 bass plugs and emitted more contact noise than a rumbling U.S. Army Tank. Now.........Soft back-pack types called "tackle bags" that sport plastic inserts and look like they should have Flower Child appliques stuck all over them.
