My family and I just recently moved to the Lewisville area, about 7 months ago. One of the things we love to do as a family is fish....with that said we started looking for a good place to do so. We stumbled across the barge while driving around one night just getting familiar with the area. Our curiosity got the best of us so we decided to check it out. I must say our experience has been great every time. Thanks to Mike (a regular and employee out there) my family and I now know how to fish for carp and buf. Not to mention my son was hooked on it after catching his first carp......man the fight they put on it awesome. So thanks Mike, for being patient and taking the time to help us out !! We have fished a couple of the tournaments which were also great experiences. There is not a lot of drama out there, the people are friendly, it's a great way to spend time with your family and friends if you enjoy fishing.

My uncle took me to the Lewisville Barge, in the early 60's. I have caught many fish off of it. My to strangest fish to catch from there, is a Bowfin(grinnell)and I caught a Walleye. The Bowfin was in the early 60's and the Walleye was in the 70's. I netted a flathead cat for a fisherman, that was over 60lbs . Lots of great times there...

I have not been there in several years, but used to fish it alot when I was a kid. I really need to take my son fishing at the barg soon to pass on the old tradition. Interesting you mention the walleye. I remember seeing them dead on the bank at lewisville in the 1970s. They did stock them, but it did not take. I have never seen or heard of a Bowfin from lewisville before. I did see a true alligator gar from lewisville in the early 70s. It was a several ft long mega fish. They are gone now too.

I was at the barge talking with "Big Mike" this morning (530am)...I enjoyed chatting with him...
The Bowfin that i caught, is the only 1 that I have ever seen at Lake Lewisville... I watched a guy catch a eel one night. He thought it was a snake...
You never know what is in the water...

As some of you may know now I work out there. On 9/17/2012 I had 2 of the coolest thing happen to me. I hooked a 11lbs 6oz flathead and a coy (or koi) carp it was small but super cool. I am 3rd Generation fisherman who fish at the Lewisville fishing barge.

If anyone remembers, I grew up fishing with Lee, Lawson, Al, Jim and that group of guys from the barge. I was just a kid then.
I thank God for each day!

That man can remember when I was about 6 years old fishing thst barge. My uncle was really good friends with the guys the Carp Tournaments are dedicated to. I cant rembmer off the top of my head but their names are on the awards plaque by the carp well.

Cool. You should stop in and talk to him some time he is working on Tuesday. The guys who you are talking about are Glenn Duvall and Dale Turnipseed. John is out now doing a lot better but most likely will not come back to work.

Yup! Glenn Duvall and Dale! My uncle knew those guys very well and fished a long time with them. John hasn't changed much in the last 20 years lol. He looked pretty much the same as he did back in the early 90's. We had a bunch of photos on the board up there but over the years they have been replaced
I thank God for each day!

The first time I fished there was thirty years ago. Everytime I walk in there, it reminds me of being a little kid. It looks the same and smells the same. Instant flashback. I took my wife there for our anniversary a few years back. She caught a nice gar. It's a odd place for an anniversary, but we sat there all night outside on the northside, wind in our face and had a blast all night long!...True story
