Academy H20 series swimbaits are pretty good and may work into your budget. I picked up a bluegill and a few of the shad models for under $5.00 a piece and have caught fish on all of them.

You may also want to try something like the YUM money minnow. They aren't cheap for what they are but you gey more than one at least. The fat girls love those things!

It takes a long while for a bass to get to the DD class.
By the time they make it, they're fat and lazy.

IMO
The best bets is to slow down presentation (ideally you would use a jig) and up-size your lures (again, you would use a jig).

I'm definitely no expert, but I have been fortunate enough to pick the brains of a couple of swimbait experts and an expert swimbait maker... They say in a lot of cases, one of the keys to a really productive swimbait is how slow they can retrieved while maintaining the desired, fluid action. Some guys have 10-15min retrieves!.... Those guys have waaaaay more patience than I can imagine.

....Just food for thought! cheers

I dont use them but I fish with some guys that do. They are throwing the "Huddleston" shad, chubs, trout pattern stuff both hard plastic and soft. Tackle wharehouse is most likely the best 1st step you can make, read the reviews on the baits. I can tell you this is even with my heavy 7' falcons I cant use the big swim baits even if I wanted to. Big Dobyn's is the rods you will need to look at. I throw jigs 80% of my time and I manage a 7 plus several times a month. The swim bait guys are beating me senseless with those 6" to 11"-4oz and heavier baits. They work! *Just not every day*. If you are serious about the swim baits there are some forums dedicated to that style of fishing.

There's a lot of swimbait info at www.tacticalbassin.com. I know it's based in California but Matt Allen is well known for his swimbait trophies in the area I came from. I'm sure some of the info can be applied to what you're looking for.
