Man sorry to hear about the Champion, thats a bad deal. Thanks for the advise. DFW boats has there own mechanic, they pay him for what. Just to let you know what I found out what the problem was. I got home Saturday, removed the lower unit, and the driveshaft broke at the top bearing. I checked the oil in the lower unit and very little oil came out and a bunch of water. Does any one know where I could get a used lower unit for this Merc.

I'll tell you what, email me the motor specs and I will try to find out if I can get you a good deal on a repair. My sponsoring dealer is in TN so if I can get you a deal it won't be too far of a drive.

Cya,

Mike

try http://www.iboats.com .. you can get new, used, and reconditioned... check http://www.boattrader.com and also on ebay ... unfortunately like others have said this will basically be up to them to see how much they want to step forward and help you out ... a lot of dealers will do that because of the situations... knowing there is what is legal, and what is right ...

I hope that you didn't sign a receipt with this on it. I feel for you but it doesn't look promising.

It's hard to believe that someone would buy a used boat on a lot without spending the money to have the engine checked out. On the other hand, maybe the salesperson led you to believe that it was checked out and fine.

I wish you luck regardless.

Yes, Texas does have the Lemon Law, but I don't know if it applies to a boat. Texas also has a law called the Three Day Cool off period. Which allows a purchaser 3 business days to cancel a contract and return the goods. But again, I don't know if applies to boats.

I think your biggest hurdle is if you bought the boat AS IS. If so, I think you might be out of luck. AS IS means AS IS. Although it's not right or ethical, thats how they cover their butts.

I bought a boat from those guys back when they were called Park-n-Sell. They screwed me too back then. I don't know if it's the same people that run it now or not. Back then all their boats were sold on consignment only basis and AS IS with the option of buying an after market warranty at a OUTRAGES price.

Over the years I have purchased six boats and have learned something different about the buying process every time. Never just do an on the water test ! That just lets you know how its running at the time. Always do 1: Compression test 2: Spark test 3: Check lower unit lube and 4: Crawl under the boat and hit the hull with your fist to find any weak or soft spots.

I'm sorry to hear about this happening to you and I hope they do the right thing.

Good luck.

I am sorry to have to say that if what you are looking at is a $2000 rebuild of a lower, then you cannot afford an attorney. Truth is, the attorney will want an hourly rate that would be expensive if there is but two grand in controversy, or a percentage which would mean you would need to win four grand just to get your two grand for repairs. Sad fact of our legal system.

Did you take a loan out on it. You might be able to back up through the bank and put some heat on them. Just an idea.

Bad Buisness spreads fast by word of mouth. I will help the spread. Please let us know if they make it right or not. TFF has quite a few members and probably come in contact with thousands more throughout the year just fishing. Fixing this for you would cost them very little. But not taking care of customers can cost them alot.

to me the whole process smells rotten - all they sell is consignment boats? in other words all they provide is a space on the lot and a disclaimer for people with questionable used product so that the owner doesn't have to look the purchaser in the eye.

AR Basscat,
Let's all call DFW Boats, at least every 5 minutes. Post the number.
