Hi. I'm new to Dallas area and went for a walk around White Rock Lake and saw some signs about fishing. Is this lake stocked? Any success stories?

WRL is a great little LMB fishery! Put in some time and you can catch good numbers there, just not much size. But it's nice to have a place like that right in the heart of an urban area.

welcome I'd like to give it a try because I have heard good things about the lake, but I live too far away!

I have been fishing the lake and tributary creeks since 1974, Dixon branch ran behind my house as a kid.

The last stocking for was in 1996, but the lake is a good fishery. The florida gene is prevalent so the bite gets tough after fronts come through. You can do well out there if you keep your patterns basic to the time of year. the current road re-contruction at NW HWY has kept the lake stained, but with that winding down it shouls start to clear up.

The largest bass I have caught was over 8 pounds, so there are good fish in the lake. I have had days were my best five approached 28 pounds. But day in and day out you will consistently catch 1 to 3 pounders.

Bass boats are useable but you MUST USE your trolling motor only, even for launching and loading. there is a 10.5 hp restriction.

If you see a black Basscat on the water wave me over.

There will be a long thread on fishing in White Rock Creek as we get closer to fall. There is a yearly run of white bass and crappie starting around Thanksgiving. Lots of people fish there. The fishing can be outstanding. You can search for the previous threads regarding the fishing.

You are suppose to load and unload without your "big motor" which sometimes requires getting you feet wet. Thats my problem with White Rock. I do not want to get my feet wet with that water because I dont know if me and my wife are through having children yet.

As soon as the weather starts to cool off, the fishing will heat up. I went out for a couple of hour this past weekend and every fish I caught was in the 12-15 inch range. Short, fat, and healthy! Tons of shad in that lake.

Good scenery to!!! The weekends will have lots of bike riders and joggers enjoying the park.

first,if you knew how to walk your trailer rails you would not get your feet wet.
second, if you lived near the lake and fished it you would see that the water is cleaner than most lakes in all of north texas, and that was backed up by dallas fly fishers association water quality survey several years ago. the bass that are caught are all in great shape.

Full of short fat chunks. Trolling motor only. Fish either the north end or south end (not much in between). North end has a ton of brush, and lay downs. The deepest part of the lake I've found is the first major bend up the creek. Lots of bank fisherman, and kayakers on the weekends. Since it's so shallow the spawn begins earlier than your normal deep lakes. Fun little oasis, and once you're up in the creek you'll forget you're still inside the city limits (until you hear a police siren).

Fish reeds with a 1/2oz black brown amber santone rattling jig and a table rock red paca chunk and that's all you need. Some 20lb invisx and a 7ft mh or h and high speed reel

Any bass up the creek (between Mockingbird & Northwest Hwy)? I have caught quite a few dinks 12-15" out of Dixon creek and a few near the boat houses and along the dam.

Any other spots or techniques to try? Only thing I have caught them on over the years is small soft plastics. No luck on cranks, spinnerbaits or jigs. Any help would be appreciated.

Yesterday was my first time taking my canoe in WRC and I stayed for 10 hours.
I caught 32 white bass 8-10 inches long , 2 lmb the biggest being 14 inches , and one
26 inch blue cat. My best day fishing ever. I caught all the bass on a 1/4 oz.
Orange rooster tail and the cat fish on a jug line with fresh cut shad. All fish
were released except the catfish. He will be dinner tonite. The water was cool and clear till about a foot below the surface. This creek is alot more cleaner than rowlett creek.
The fish were even nicer looking than what I've been catching at rowlett creek.

Ain't nothin better than watching a fish stretch my line.

there is not much structure between mockingbird and northwest highway that will hold fish for lond periods, that area also gets a little stagnant if the south wind stops blowing. in the winter you can catch some fish along the backs of the creek holding tight the tree roots that extend out of the bank. there are two small feeder creeks in that stretch creek also, fish position at the mouth of both creeks.
