I seem to only catch 2-4lb fish on rocks. What baits do you guys use to target the larger bass on rocks? I normally use: 1. shakey head with creature or trick worm 2. Med-Deep crank bait

I think it depends more on what prey they are targeting around rocks. This time of year shad are moving to the points and backs of creeks so shallow to medium cranks, soft jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, swimjigs, topwaters and swimbaits can all be great. Throw in some soft plastics and jigs for good measure. Other times such as when crawfish are the main target, slow moving bottom baits are the deal. For me I am just gonna try to work all the water columns in areas with rock with a variety of what I listed above till I find something that is a pattern then fine tune it and keep after them.

Shakey heads, crankbaits and road runners. I catch tons of good fish here in Kansas on road runners around rip rap!

Thanks for the input! I seem to always get stuck on 1 or 2 baits and just move until I get bit or skunked. When your working the water columns do you tend to start shallow or deep. Sometimes I turn perpendicular to the rocks and try to stay in the strike zone.

I almost always start shallow because I feel the fish in that range are usually more aggressive and I will get feedback faster.

I like to use the Paydirt Custom Jigs ball-chain with a Biffle Bug trailer. 1/2 to 3/8 oz heads with 5/0 hook. These really work in the rocks as well as timber.
