I was out this morning and was getting alot of bites. Ended up getting quite a few dinks and kept 4 nice ones in 2 hrs. DIdnt have a measuring stick so anything near length of my size 12 got kept.

Anyway, I was getting alot of bites but more often than not i'd miss. The bites were the same as the ones i'd hook and I cant figure out what im doing different. Any advice?

Don't set the hook. Just lift up your rod and the fish will get hooked.

I would lose that swivel and tie directly to the Jig also.

light rod and line help. When you feel the bite litterally take the pole straight up and the hook will set it self. The lighter line n rod help with not ripping the hook through the mouth.

Lose that swivel and tie directly to the Jig. When you get bit, start your rod up and when you feel pressure, then set the hook. The last time we were at Cedar Creek we got lots and lots of bites. I learned to ignore those bites until I felt pressure. I don't know if the ones we were missing were small or what, but when we waited for the thump followed by pressure, it was always a HOG.

Wigorman didn't post the picture with the swivel, did he? Agree with raise the rod slowly and fish will set the hook for you.

I also keep some #8 hooks/jig heads on board for this very reason. Just in case I think it's something small. Sometimes it's bream or tiny cats, sometimes it's small crappie. Sometimes it's the bigger crappie like the others have said.

When you feel the thump raise your rod like your answering the phone. My dad taught me this years ago and it still works like a charm.

I went last weekend and thought then brim where playing with me, but it was the bigger crappie just running with it. Went smaller and in the basket they went.

If in doubt do what I call "Check It" just a slight pull up (as soon as you might feel it - or feel something).

I always tell customers it will take a while to determine you have a fish versus brush (just a slight little pull up will tell you).

Just a very slow pull over a limb (much like Bass Fishing) its not really a thump And then - Yes you have em (never really feeling the hit),

My best Crappie fisherman have been Pro Bass Fisherman they just feel it (on those hard to catch days).

When they are biting like snapping turtles we can all catch em,

But Just Check It when in doubt (and do a slight pull up) - you'll know,

I use the snap swivel so I can switch colors quickly. I can still feel the thump.
