This may help. Take a 5/8oz or heavier pinch on sinker and roll the ears with needle nose pliers. You want the ears rolled so they do not pinch the line. Place the sinker on the line so it slides freely and close the ears. Holding very slight pressure on the hung jig, let the weight fall. The weight will usually bounce the jig loose when it hits bottom. If not, use the rod tip to lower the weight below the jig and twitch the rod tip sharply to let the weight bounce the jig loose. This usually gets my jigs loose 90% of the time. If you have to bounce the weight multiple times, check the line and knot when you get the jig back. The weight sometimes nicks the line but rarely.

GREAT idea Ken!! I've tried the spark plug method before but seem to more times than not, loose the jig & plug both! HEY, it just dawned on me why that '68 deuce & a quarter someone drove off the old bridge before the new 155 bridge opened, seems to be in a different spot every time I see it on the graph. They changed the plugs and.... well, maybe not. loco rolleyes lol_2

I think it's Water Gremlin that makes a snap weight. Looks like a bell sinker but has a plastic "do-hickey" at the top to snap over your line. Their not easy to find but I've seen a guy use them for knocking jigs. The last place I saw them was at Cabelas in Allen.

Mike that weight is called the Snap Loc Dipsey by Water Gremlin. Gander Mountain has them also. A lot of the guys that fish the barges use them when they get hung up on the brush.

Ken, I made up the Zip Jig Knocker. If you pour your on weights its cheap and you can make a dozen in no time. They work great. I pour 1/2 and 1 oz weights. I have been successful with the 1 oz weights in freeing fish that are wrapped around a limb.

Good suggestions; I like the name zip lock knocker. I have a mold for 5/8oz pinch on sinkers and don't have to buy snap swivels and zip ties and make them up. I used the bell sinkers with snaps also, but they didn't work as well as the pinch on sinkers for me. But any of these will save jigs and don't take any time to use. You spend less time getting the jig loose with the weight than tying on a new jig.

Any more good suggestions?

Seems the spark plug bouncing around could spook the pile.

Pulling on jigs to break the line also pulls limbs and they bounce back when the line breaks. That can spook the pile also.

You got that right sir. One of my good fishing buddies likes the braided stuff and almost sold me on using it yesterday. He hooked up with a crappie in the brush and got hung up, tried the let him swim out thing and finally gave up. Ended up yanking the crappie with a piece of the brush attached! Would of posted a picture but it was raining and didn't have waterproofing on the phone cam.
