photo bucket

Caught it in a golf course pond in the DFW area. I've seen several of them swimming around. At first I thought it might be a tilapia but it's white???

Any ideas?

That's what I thought but I've never seen white (I'm talking snow white with pink eyes) tilapia. Are they even going to survive in this area? I thought tilapia are not cold tolerant. The bigger mystery is how in the world did a bunch of tilapia end up in a country club golf course water hazard? Very strange.

They are in all the golf course ponds on Randolph AFB. Seem to be a breeding population.

Tilapia, I see them every Christmas in the back pond of my family's house in Florida. They were stocked & took over.

they are considered an invasive species, they do reproduce quickly. While the initial though of them not being tolerant of our weather its much like anything else adaptation. They are getting more common. Good eating too.

They have taken over squaw creek. Supposedly someone released them in there. They messed up the bass fishing pretty good.

I initially thought it was a white crappie but the mouth looked to large.

It sure looks like a Tilapia to me. They are illegal to possess if alive .

I guess that was probably TPWD. They put them in most of the power plant lakes.

And +1 to WTF? a tilapia on a spinnerbait?
