Hey guys, new to the boards and looking for a little help. I live in Corinth and have been fishing that side of the lake for the last 6 months. I've been fishing the parks around there with decent success. I've also made my way to Grapevine for a few trips.
Tonight, if the weather permits it, I'm going to head out to the old dam off of Garza. We'll be fishing with cut shad and maybe a little stinkbait. I'm looking to be out there from about 11 to 4am.
Has anybody had any luck out there recently? Do the cops ever kick people out of there?

Cops won't mess with you. I fished out there Wednesday night on both sides with shad and bluegill and didn't get even a bite or nibble in 3 hours. When the fish are biting it can be a good spot, but when they're off they are off completely. If you get bored it's a great place to hunt for snakes and the occasional fox or coyote.

Thanks for the info.
Grasshopper, did you have any trouble catching shad at the dam?
Dam, if you see us out there c'mon over. My friend is getting there around 7:30 or 8 and then me and another friend are getting there around 11 (after the Allen vs Coppell game, we're middle school teachers/football coaches).

Thanks Tom, we weren't sure if we needed to hit a known shad catching spot before we got to the dam.
Tom, I have another question for ya, I saw on the other thread the footlong gizzard shad you're catching. I've been throwing my castnet for a few months now, but I can't seem to catch anything bigger than about 6 or 7 inches max. Am I just throwing in the wrong spots or are they where only the boats can reach 'em?

I catch my bait at Tower Bay or Shady Shores before hitting the dam because I like to ensure that I have bait before I get all the way out there, but you shouldn't have any problem getting any in the cove. I saw plenty of shad in 2-3 foot of water.
The rocky side (on the right) is gonna be your best bet to get some cats with the NW wind tonight. It's about 20 feet deep with a hard cast, but you need to get down the dam at least halfway. I'd suggest walking as far as you can, but play around with it and try different areas/depths. The cats are there....finding them is another atter. Good luck!

Those large shad didn't come from Lewisville, but there are some that size in there.

Thanks Grasshopper, we've been catching all our shad at Willow Grove Park recently, but we might just give it a try at the dam tonight and see how it goes.
I walked around the dam yesterday evening and looked at both sides pretty good. The rocky side kind of looked like a death trap for night fishing (combined with cold drinks and a lack of coordination). That being said, I'll have to give it a shot!

Oh, okay Tom. I might just have to give steroids to the ones I'm catching to get 'em that big.

Cool, maybe you can bring some good luck out there to that area.
