Mariner was Mercurys answer as how to compete with the foreigner motors like Yammy, Suzuki. Seems that our government had lifted import tax back then to promote foreign trade. With that, the American companies could not compete and so Mercury introduced the Mariner motor as an import. We built the parts, shipped them ll miles offshore to a ship, that assembled them and sent it back to us as an import. So in essence. A Mariner is a Mercury, just in a different color.

Yep! I know that some of the Mariners had made in Canada on them. Good motors.
