Hello, I am looking for info on this area. A small group of us is looking to camp on the beach. We usually go to Galvestion Island State Park but would like to be on the beach so decided on Mustang island. We have kayaks and fish for Reds and Trout. We also do the whole land based shark fishing thing although we are not very succefull at that! Is the beach there ok to drive on? Any info you can provide for that area or suggestions are needed!!! Thanks!

I have never been to mustang island state park, but about 10-15 miles south of there is padre island national seashore (PINS). My buddies and I have camped and fished there sevral times and have always had a blast. If you search this site for threads on PINS you will find a wealth of knowledge.

The old Fish Pass jetties on the north end of the park is a good surf location. I know a bunch of bull reds have been caught off it. A little farther south at Packery Jetties you'll have an opportunity for more species because of it's tidal change, but it's also a little more crowded. You won't be able to drive there via the beach, you'll have to exit the park. With the kayaks, just exit the park, and use one of these launches and you should be able to find reds pretty quickly this time of the year.

i live in corpus and fish the area ALOT. you can drive anywhere on the beach right now without any worry of 4wd. as for some kayak fishing. anywhere down the beach access road you can find GOOD fishing. google wilsons cut....kates hole...deadmans hole....brown and root flats.....all of the pplaces are FULL of big tailings reds and monster flounder right now, and are all on the same road as Mustang Island. went out the other morning and had my limit of flounder (all over 20") by 730 around Kates hole. Ny buddy with me had his limit of reds about the same time
