I found a brand new, never used, custom wrapped G-Loomis G2 spinning rod this weekend at a yardsale. (Well it says it's a G-Loomis G2 on the blank) It's 7'-6" long, and looks to me like a light weight salt water type rod. (kind of big at the handle) What I would like to do is use it for a Deep Diving crank, Alabama Rig, or a C-Rig rod. So my question is what reel would you use?

To get a good spinning reel you’re looking at at least $80.00.

I have had very good luck with both Daiwa, and Shimano spinning reels.

Right now I would be looking at the Daiwa Procyon spinning reels if I were in the market for a spinning reel. In your case you might consider the PRCY4000SH.

So I could use a good spinning reel and deep crank a DD-22? I was worried that the gears would not be right to get it deep enough... I keep hearing that i need a 5.2.1 gears in a baitcaster..

You're gonna want something a bit heavier and with more control to throw what you're thinking about throwing. At least a 7' MH casting rod/reel combo. The line twist associated with spinning gear is gonna make cranking that DD a chore in itself. Most folks I know that do throw A rigs throw them on Heavy casting gear. Throwing an A rig on spinning gear is just gonna wear you out faster. I like 7' - 7'6" MH casting gear with a C-rig too, with a lot of backbone.

DD ratio: I like 5.3:1 and below
With a C-rig I like to have a 6.3:1 or up. Picking up slack fast is crucial to making those bites count on the C-rig.

Tom Mann was well known for the fact that he used spinning gear for everything.

The trick with spinning gear for crankbaits, and such is to use a crane swivel with a snap. I’ve used a heavy ball-bearing swivel with snap and that works well.
