Canyon in my expierence is alot about patience and persistence....finding that "something" different than the rest of the lake and having confidence in your fish finder.
But there are no fish in canyon lake..ecspcially catfish

Steve and I 4 hr trip heat of day this summer

Okay cliff, your pics have convinced me that maybe bill gates could buy a bite on canyon...but mainly if he hired you to put him on em laugh . I might make a trip to canyon to see if I can wrangle a blue or two from the bank. Maybe ill just have to drag my lady on a weekend camping trip to calaveras to scratch the bluecat itch this fall.

Hi Fish Inspector and Tun3r....would you be able to PM me some info. I love TFF and am very new to fisherman. Unfortunately, I got a boat at canyon on memorial day weekend, went out about 4 times between memorial day to today and it was pretty bad. Too much recreation going on to enjoy fishing. I've caught literally just 1 small bass in about 25 hours plus of fishing, so I'm looking to switch to cats. I was hoping you could PM me and help me out, any help is greatly appreciated and trust me, I respect the state of Texas too much to leave trash laying around (Ie. Calaveras lake).

I've been catching catfish bass fishing. A lot on a crankbait and a nice size yellow on a fluke. Like everyone says it takes a lot of time on the water there. I'm just now catching 5-10 bass a trip. Best trip this summer was 28 bass best five were 15+lbs. good luck

We have a boat but not really rigged for fishing. So mainly Ramp fishing or any great bank spots.

Really? I actually just bought a fishing kayak. When are you ever in the area? My father and I have a house in Rocky Creek Ranch up here every other weekend.

We went up into the mouth of the Guadalupe and saw a lot of abandoned limb lines hanging on the exposed trees, probably left over from the previous spring. That's where I would start.

I had to rub my eyes when I saw a post by Cliff Hill, then I noticed someone dug up a 5 year old thread.
Hope Cliff is doing well, great guide, and even better guy! flag thumb

Cat Fishing at Canyon.
This can make you take up golf.
But myself and my buddy Doug have done it some over the years and here's what we found.
Bait: Fresh Shad or Liver. You can buy cut Shad at Jenson's in Hancock. $10 a jar. Liver at any Supermarket.
Drift fish or bottom fish with the Shad. For Liver I normally use a large saltwater slip float.
Area's: The fish seem to roam and move all the time. Try most of the large cove's in 10'-25' or water.
Mystic, Jacob's, Potter's or Tom's are a few to try.
Tips: Look for mussel beds. Most large Blue's have mussels in their belly.
Use the 20 minute rule. If no bites in 20 minutes, move.
There in there, just need to locate them.
