We had lots of rain over the weekend and the water has cooled down some. Temp gauge wasn't working but was told it was around 80 degs. by late afternoon on a sunny day and was around 78 on the rainy days. Most of the fish was caught shallow on Popping Frogs up the river between mile marker 18 and 23 on both the US. and Mex. sides. One day they are there and the next day they are gone on the shallow bite. I also caught lots of smaller fish on a Spook early morning and had a couple of big fish on a Swimbait. Pitching and flipping the bushes and deep grass pods on points that are in 3 ft. worked great with a Senko. My advice is to fish as many points as you can as fast as you can. You will have to fish 25 points to get one good fish unless you get lucky and run upon a grassy point that has several good fish. Everything looks good but if you don't get bit by the time you reach the end of the point run to the next one. I would say spend about 10 minutes per point unless you get bit; then if so work all the way around to the other side and go back around the point deep at the edge of the grass looking for the bigger fish. 6 fish for a 2 day total of 29 lbs. won the S.I.T. this weekend.

It was a 3 fish limit per day... And I believe it took a 5#+ average to win

Sorry about that I forgot to put the lbs. that it took to win in the last sentence. It is in there now. Yes right at a 5 lb adv. per fish.

18 lbs won Bud Light Championship, 16 was second. I was down there for a couple days and sure seemed tough to me. The most fun I had was catching a couple schooling striper!!
