Going LMB fishing on Choke mid-October (18-21).

I've been there once with a bunch of Catfishermen, only got a half day devoted to LMB. That was about 4 years ago. We launched at the 99 bridge.

THis 4 day trip is entirely devoted to LMB. We're staying at Calliham. Going with a group of old college buddies. I have more experience than any of them, so we don't know [censored] about fishing Choke.

I have no idea if there is a tourney then, although I hear there are a lot in October. So, I understand if anyone is reluctant to offer advice.

But, if the tide moves you, I'd appreciate any info. I just want camp bragging rights.

thanks,

Carl

Hasn't been real good this year but the cooler weather should help quite a bit but then again if they drop the lake much more than theres no telling how the fishing will be. Hopefully someone can give you some good info because all I'll be able to tell you is what has NOT been working.

the bite has been slowly getting worse. I was out about 3 weeks ago and only caught 5 with nothing to brag about before my trolling motor broke. 2 weeks before that I only caught 1 but it weighed 7.45. Now I don't usually fish all day, I'll go out for either the morning or afternoon bite. I stay mostly down by the dam throwing cranks or red eye shad's. If the wind isn't blowing I'd trying come C-rigs on points or near the channels. I hope to go this Sat and if you'll ping me I'll be glad to tell you how I did.

We went on the 9th and fished the morning for about 4 hours. Was pretty terrible. We through everything in the tackle box and not a single bite. We fished 4 fingers for a while, fished near the humps, and even ran to the west side of the lake and tried for a bit. The water level is really low the humps are so exposed you could walk between them as there was no water between them. It was right after that front came through and thing started to cool off a bit so maybe that hurt it. Also the wind was out of the north instead of the norm.

Water has cooled quite a bit on Buchanan (76-77f)too, due to the north winds, but the bite has been kinda slow here also.

Maybe a few south winds will pick the bite up by mid-October.

Thanks for the info!

Me and girlfriend went fishing on Sunday 16th. We caught about 40 white bass, kept 28 to clean, also caught 8 black bass of which 4 were small keepers, biggest 3 lbs. caught in about 2 ft. Water on 8in. Wat/red lizards. Girlfriend also caught 1 catfish on rattletrap. This was all before 9:30. Started raining pretty good so we took it in. A very enjoyable morning.

I'll be hitting Choke this Tuesday and plan on Deep Cranks and large worms on main lake points and humps. Haven't been to Choke Canyon since early May. Had great luck back then with both numbers and size. No idea what to expect this week though as the lake is another 5' to 7' down from then. I dont fish in 100 degree plus weather. Shoot me a PM on Wednesday and Ill let you know how it went. From what I'm told there is almost no grass in the water right now. Been fishing Choke since I moved to Texas in 2006 and have never seen it this low.

Hey Burnetbass. My girlfriend and I caught 28 today with the exception of 1 on a 5XD, 1 on a C-rig everything else came on 1/4 oz Red Eye shads Chrome/Blue back and Chrome/Black back. I had a big girl break off my Spro Little John DD and when she came up trying to throw the bait we got a good look at her and she was at least 10lb. PM me and I'll tell you where we were fishing.

I'll get back with you tomorrow, Al.

First, I gotta familiarize myself with a couple of the lures you've mentioned - web search.

Just wanted to let you know I'm paying attention.

till then, thanks!

Carl
