Did I miss the post on this TPWD release here? Here is the pimped link, so use your discretion - http://bit.ly/SByJg2 . What does the Mick think of this?

I'm all for more public access on the Guadalupe. Those are good spots, too. It may mean that TPWD will need to increase the presence of wardens to enforce the Special Regulations in that zone, but that's fine, too.

So what exactly does this mean? Aren't people still going to need to pay to park at those places? I've fished the Guadalupe in the past, paid to park at a couple of places, and thought about buying into the TU lease program this upcoming winter, but mainly because their leases are in some really fishy parts of the river.

corskier, I really don't know exactly what it means. I don't think there's any secret that if you can float, you can float through leases, and that's what guides do.

I've paid this past summer at one of the locations to park, float and fish. My concern is how crowded these areas will be? I've also been considering the holdover tournament. Any one getting in on that?

Yes I will be participating in the hold over tournament, I believe it's the 27th and 28th of October.
Fishing is one thing i can't agree on but catching would be more of what i do.

We won there were only two teams that competed. Lots of fun and some hard fishing with the cold front that blew in that weekend.

The uneasy relationship between public and private interests on the Guadalupe has always bugged me. Stocking trout in the river for the public to catch but not having much access to the river bank really does little to help the sport of fishing IMHO. The whole TU thing and has fostered more then it's share of heated debates at all levels. The TU lease program (inadvertently or otherwise) creates an exclusive group of people with special access to public water thus proving once again that if you have enough money anything is possible.
I participated in a survey recently to gauge the economic impact of trout fishing on the Guadalupe and even this old cheapskate drops nearly 150.00 on a day trip to fish the river!

I am excited about the new free access points. I am not excited about how people treat things that are free. I believe in organizations like TU because organizations exist for their members. I also believe the water belongs to us all. For me, personally, I don't want a bunch of people around me on the water. So I may put in at a public legal access spot- but I'm fast to move away from everyone and find a new spot. It takes some work but its worth it. I just hope the free program works well and people are good stewards of the water.

I am guessing what the Guadalupe needs most is water and lots of it.
