Finally got around to documenting my transducer mount for my Commander. It is removable and creates minimal drag. I've included a detailed write-up on my blog. http://wormsinacan.com/articles/removable-transducer-mount

Way cool! How did you come by the idea? Really out of not finding anything that met the completely removable/low drag need. I was definitely inspired by the YakAttack dogbone concept for the connection to the Yak. I played around with some PVC trying to get the right length. First I tried two couplers connected, but settled on the single deep coupler. The threaded rod + screwball + PVC has now got me thinking about all kinds of fun accessories I'm going to experiment with.

Very nice!! I am in the same boat as I felt I had a need for a removable setup. Currently using the Mad Frog Liberator, but there is some drag that, although not a dealbreaker for me, is noticable. My Tarpon has the same rear rudder setup, so I may get adventerous sometime this winter and try putting one together for myself.
Thanks for sharing!
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Nice work. Very clean and finished looking. I personally don't have side imaging on my Commander, so I used a floor mount kit. I have a color graph (HB387i I think), and it works great shooting through the floor. I couldn't imagine why you didn't do that until I read the narrative and realized you had side imaging.

Yeah, the side-imaging transducer was the catch on everything I had planned to try.

Yeah, I definitely like the attention to detail. It's a finished product.
How do you like your Commander? I love mine. I had been trying to buy a used Cuda, but couldn't get close on price. I started looking again, and came across the Commander 140. I loved it from the first paddle, and got it for a song.

Love the Commander...use to have a Ride 135 that I enjoyed, but it was much harder to lug around. The commander has been a great fit.

That looks great! And I agree, it has a very finished look to it. Great job. I had the oppertunity to paddle a commander 140 for a few days. Fell in love with it! Very stable, paddles like a dream, tracks like it's on rails. Loved the captians perch, rarely used the seat, but when I did it was very comfortable. Great kayak guys.

I need to redo my ghetto mount. It's an aluminum bar that I bent to shape, drilled holes for the rudder mount, then zip-tied the transducer to. It works, but it ain't nearly so pretty.
-------- Fish ON!
