Thats an awesome video.. looked similar to a tarpon coming up and walking on the water right there at the end when he threw the frog

Thats why I use an 8ft 8 power rod with 65-80lb braid. You stick a big one, she comes on in

I just watched it again and it looks like he wasnt paying attention from the start. To me it looks like the fish wakes towards the bait right after it clears the grass and then hits the frog after he starts reeling. Does anyone else see that?

He always uses spinning gear in the vids I've seen. Idk y just what he does. Shame he loses it, u can see the frog zoom off in the slowmo

What exactly is wrong with spinning gear for big fish? Salt water boys use it all the time for big fish. Just cant boat em all. Guess nobody else ever lost a big fish on a frog on a baitcaster right?.......

nothing wrong with it its just not practical when fishing for big fish around heavy cover. open water is a different story

His problem is he has too light of a rod for such a big fish, regardless of rod/reel type. It's entirely possible the fish bent the hook and this lose had nohing to do with rod/reel type.

never said weaker but have you ever tried throwing a frog with a bulky spinning reel, heavy spinning rod and braid? its just not designed for it and would be fatiguing to say the least. It can be done but im not sure why someone would want to.

He didn't get hook penetration. He mighta had a chance with braid.

the hook on those frogs looks to be about a 3/0 live bait hook. just not designed for heavy cover or big fish. yes you could land one on it but its hard enough landing one on a 5/0 ewg double hook
