So I was in White Oak on Saturday and remembered the post I saw about rebar being put in stumps with PVC over them for marking paths down in No Name. Well here we go again, more of this stuff.

This is 3/4" rebar so when the PVC comes off, these are boat eaters.. Why are people doing this? Mark your path on your dang GPS.. Buy one for 100 bucks if you don't have one.

It should be illegal but the people just keep doing it. Sooner or later someone will take the PVC off and when the water comes up then you have the boat getters unless some are 5 ft above the water. I can tell you this back in the early 90's there was a guy using T-Post and had put them in a line of stumps back toward his dock. The lake was about 5-6 ft low at the time and when the lake came up it was about 2 inches under the water. I hit one of them at idle and it ripped a 2inch gash/hole in my boat from just under me feet to the rear of the boat. Before I could get into the ramp it sank. Bilge could not keep up. I know the people that put these in think they are helping but most of the time they are not.If they can get you for running under a bridge they should get you for putting rebar or anything metal in a lake that can have or make personal damage to one's property. IMO

I wonder why no one evers sees people do this? I am on the lake all the time and this rebar just suddenly appears! Maybe people do it at night? Has any one on here seen somebody do it?

I put a call into SRA to see if they can help with the removal of this stuff. I don't think it's their job to remove it, but they drive on the lake too and don't want their boats damaged either.

Is it legal to remove the rebar?

I would think so. You are just removing litter/trash from the lake. No harm in that.

Just a idea, would it be possible to post the latitude/longitude of the stumps marked with rebar so you could have in your gps for future reference when the lake fills back up

Better yet, if your gonna take the time to go and GPS it, just pull it out of the stump.

I have them marked on my GPS, but my unit is at the lake so I can't share the coordinates. Sorry.

Good luck pulling those things out, I put on a pair of gloves and pulled so hard my back popped..

The battery powered sawsall sounds like a good idea to me.

Try pulling one out it is harder than you ! Think about it, cause they drive them in with a hammer. Not easy at all. Been there done that. You would need a fence post puller.

I would not cut them off, when the top of the stump rotts you will have a sharp rebar nail left.

Big Mike, I have wondered the same thing. They must do it on sun. evenings. There are typically no boats on the lake after 6:00. Looks like the guy in white oak made them long enough to stay above full pool.Don't sawem off cause when the stump rots a little more you'll have a sharks tooth stickn up.

A chain and 250 ought to do it.....but there are more stumps that are close that may become a challenge.

What a buddy of mine and I have been doing is carrying my Hi-Lift jack in the boat. We saw a few pieces of rebar nailed into some of our favorite submerged stumps. Just put the base of the jack on the top of the stump, take a piece of mule tape and wrap it around the rebar multiple times and then wrap it around the lifting part of the jack. Start jacking it up, comes out easy as pie
