So went out for the first real time on Lavon Saturday to do some sandy fishing. Met Carey at the docks and said hello, I'm sure he had a better luck than I did!

Struggled a bit with my reel (first time using baitcaster freshwater) and generally searched around, but just could not get on the fish. Found some humps, points, and some shad poppin in about 15 feet, but no bites.

When the wife came out and got tired of watching me do more fishing than catching, switched to some old dead bait I had from earlier this year on Hubbard and did some drift fishing. Five cats - one eater - saved me from getting skunked!

All in all, a great day being out on the water! One question for all you veterans out there:

No electronics, no trolling motor, limited tackle, what is your go-to method to get on the fish?

My list to get better: 1) Practice, 2) Time, 3) Practice, 4) Maybe sink some money into electronics/TM

at that point, what i would do personally is grab my favorite crappie jigs and tie up to stumps and trees and jig for crappie.

I honestly dont know what i would do without my humminbird though.

another good area is to anchor at the power plant and cast as far as you can into it with a casting bobber and a small jig, youll catch sandies all day

Good luck

Don't be discouraged. Saturday was the worst day of sandie fishing for me in months. They just didn't wanna play.

Yeah, I don't get discouraged too easily, a day fishing is better than the alternative, even if you don't catch anything.

Worst thing is every time I take the boat out I find new things to fix. Found out this weekend that I need a new trailer...

Apparently, the fish are at Cedar Creek. See Dennis Christian's post.
