I think carping has come a long way in Texas, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

What we ARE blessed with is a DNR (or TPWD in this case) that is willing to rethink long-held beliefs about the common carp and buffalo. Agencies in many other states are still stuck in the dark ages in this regard...Minnesota is the chief one that always comes to mind first for me, a state where only one rod is allowed by default and one where there are still official attempts to eradicate the common carp wholesale from some of their lakes and rivers.

The biggest problem I see in Texas is one of personality conflicts and vendettas. It's inevitable when you get this many people from different walks of life together with a shared interest, but I still hate it. We've got so many factions and cliques in this state that won't have anything to do with certain other people or people who may be friends with certain other people or people who aren't as "sophisticated" in their fishing styles as other more experience people. I think sometimes it scares new people away.

It's only fishing folks...
