Hopefully someone will chime in as a newbie myself I wanna know!

Old breed? New breed? There's not a damn bit of difference so long as it's the Marine breed.

Depends on your lake. Find the depth of the thermocline and fish just above it. Catfish cannot survive below the thermocline so you already have a large area of the lake that you can rule out. Focus on shallow water. 1 to 10 foot depending on the lake. Target flats early and then look for shade later in the day. Again depending on the lake and the water clarity. Catfish do not like direct sunlight so they will avoid it in clear water. If your lake is clear, fish shaded side of trees, bluffs, below docks, or any other shaded areas you can find during the heat of the day. If your lake is stained or muddy water then you can find fish just about anywhere there is bait during the day in shallower water. I have caught limits of catfish in one foot of water in August high noon in 105 degree heat but that was in flooded shorelines in stained water.

Thanks, I had a lot of luck in my old hole (8.5ft) on Lake Lewisville, but it is around 5ft now. Trying to scout out a few more spots, and wanted to know where to start.
