was wondering the best ways to hook a live shrimp and keep it alive longer. some say thru the horn or tail but which is best?

... horn and avoid the black spot or you'll kill'em.
Live Shrimp flick themselves backwards to avoid prey but when they do they make a flicking sound - kinda like a clicking sound - hooking them through the tail mitigates their ability to do this and therefore takes away from the natural presentation expensive live bait makes for you.
I call the strong ones "Snappy Tom's" and they are lively ones with strong tail action- they usually bring in the largest "tasty filets" when it's all said and done for the day.

cool thanks. but sideways thru the horn or with the hook facing it. i also have these hooks its 2 that go behind the head and some plastic ring the horn sits in. its got a spring and kinda locks the shrimp in. is it a good hook to use or am i just better off hooking through the horn??

if theyre horn is big enough i go through the horn but if the horn too small i go through the tail. When goin through the tail u gotta work em a lil bit.

WalMart here off of HWY69 n 365 has the Live Shrimp Hook. It is on an Orange card. for about $3.00. two turned down hooks. a spring loop goes over the horn and a groove catches the back of the shrimp's head
The WORST day of Fishing is ALWAYS better that the BEST day at WORK.

using the average live shrimp try to stay with #5 max or #6 prefered treble hook. When holding the shrimp notice the black spot in its head - do not get close to it or the shrimp is dead in minutes... take one point on the treble hook and hook it right below the horn..... You can use a single hook or kahle hook will work fine also, if you are in lots of grass, etc. lighter hooks will bring more bites as the shrimp looks natural and will swim around and will get you more action...
