I just sold a boat and I have $2250 to spend on a new graph for my Ranger. Recommendations on Lowrance or Bird and which unit?

What Technology are you looking for? GPS Mapping? 2D Sonar? Down Imaging? Side Imaging?
There are alot of different technologies Available. IF you want it all and depends on the size of the screen you want.
My personal recommendation would be to look at the Humminbird Side Imaging Models because they come with everything.
798c - 5" Screen - MSRP $1,049 898c - 7" Screen - MSRP $1,499 998c - 8" Screen - MSRP $1,999 1198c - 10.4" Screen - MSRP $2,800
With these models you get 50 Channel GPS Receiver that refreshes 4X Per Second, Mapping with LakeMaster or Navionics, Switchfire Dual Beam 2D Sonar 200kHz and 83kHz, Down Imaging and Side Imaging. All Packaged in a single easy to use and install unit.

As much as I love my hds unit, I installed my partners bird on his boat. It was every bit as simple as Doug says and it works great. If your looking for plug and play then a bird is for you. I think my hds unit offers more fine tuning adjustments so I can set it the way I want it but I have to bother Jason when I have questions, lol.. You won't go wrong with either one and both Jason and Doug are always willing to help answer questions on either unit.

And any of the Humminbird SI Models 798ci HD, 898c, 998c or 1198c will be Not only GPS Mapping, SI, DI 2d Compatible but will also allow you to expand to 360 Imaging when it is released or in the future.

So on UniversalMania the 998 is about $900 cheaper than the 1198. Is it worth the price difference to buy the 1198? All things being equal except for the screen size??

I love my new 998. I'm sure the 1198 is nice because of the screen, but I can see everything I need to on the 998

Well based on the limited response and a hole starting to burn in my pocket, I think I will go with the HB998 over the 1198. I did also realize there are more things than the screen size different about the two models. Thanks Doug and Blade.
