Took my 7 yr old w me to Texoma today. This was the first time he went w me crack of dawn fishing. He bounced out of bed at 5 am and wanted to change into his clothes in the truck. He was ready to go!!!
We pulled up to a point and started chunking topwaters. I hooked a really big one but it straightened the hook on my spook and came unbuttoned. Couple casts later caught a nice 25" striper. The next one I hooked I handed the pole to him and let him fight it. I had to hold on as it would have ripped it out of his hands. It was another nice 25"er. Had a few more blow ups but no more takers.
We tried slabbing for them but never got a hit. Marked a ton of fish (on my new Lowrance HDS 7 which I love!) but they did not want to play. Little guy got bored so we just beached it on the north island and had fun swimming and exploring the beach.
It was an awesome day on the water w my little boy! Cant wait to try it again when it cools off a bit and the fish are a little more cooperative.

Nice job Scotty.. I heard several reports up there today like yours.. They were marking a TON of fish, but couldn't get 'em interested in much..

Best thing was you took a kid fishing!

Hey Scott, just wondering how close the settings were on that new HDS. Wondering if you had to make many changes to it. I had a boat out today. Since it was my trip he knows I like to always try and get the customers on some big fish. So after he was a little over half done he pulled off the box fish in search of some overs. He said it was a mistake. They shut down and he went in with 33 total. And stayed out till about one to do that.

Jon, thanks for your help on setting the HDS up. I could not leave the sensitivity on the level we put it on. It was way too much. I ended up putting in on auto so I could fish.

Same results for me Sunday also. Should have beached the boat as well and went swimming. Tough day on Texoma!

Well if it makes ya feel any better this weekend was tough for a lot of people..the cold front and winds saturday really shut thing down for me and I had one of my toughest days in a long time.
Sunday was better but I had to work way way too hard for the 40 fish we got..
Definately made a change this weekend..
Things oughta settle back down in the next day or two and from here on out til
The first of the year I think things are gonna get really good!!
