Hey guys imlooking for a little help here, I have a 2003 merc 250XB motor and I keep blowing up the alternator! My cranking battery is less than a yr old. Please help! Any Ideas at what might cause this?? Thanks Ron

Yes sir do you know for sure the alternator is bad or is just not charging the cranking battery. 2003 models have a 100 amp fusible link that runs from the positive lug on alternator to the starter solenoid and if this is blown it will not charge the battery. Check the voltage at the positive lug at alternator for battery voltage if there is no voltage then the link is blown and that requires the replacement of the complete link wire.....OPTI

We have seen some of the 3.0 litre blocks have a porosity in them allowing water to spray in the alternator killing them. Might be something to look for.
