Out on lake about 0630 with my son. Slow but we managed to catch 13 SB, 2 Cats and a Drum. Caught a few slabbing and then on to HellPet. Boring trolling but we needed a few more fish for a fry. Tossed a number of dinks back of both SB and cats. 4 inch cats were ferocious and we thought several times we had something worth while.

Saw a few birds, 1 to 4 at a time that looked like they were scanning for food. A few found it but didn't sustane the hunt. We started around the main dam then went to the area of "THE POLE" formally called twin poles. Caught a few there then went in to the cut and got a few there. We then trolled from there back to dead mans point. When we got close to the birds we would get one or two but couldn't put any more in the boat so back to trolling. We went in about 1 PM since the temperature on the out of water trolling motor sonar said 103. Too hot for man or woman!

We really didn't know the lake although my son had been on LL a few times a year or so ago. He remember a few general areas but no specific humps. I had been looking for a good map at Cabelas, and 2 Acadmys with no luck. He brought a not so good map that I looked at under the dome light, not very good. For some reason the HDS 5 did not put the contour lines on the scope?? I guess it wasn't put in the map for LL. I have to get the manual out and may need to update the maps in it. I guess it never has had a map update but I did do a Software download and updated the basic unit about a year ago when I put it on my boat. All the other lakes have good contour lines. Any ideas??

All in all it was a great day out with my son. Yes he did put more fish in the boat. That was even when we were trolling with identical HellPets that I rigged up 2-3 weeks ago. I told him it was because he was putting the fish on his side of the boat since he was driving and watchng the fish finder.

Watch the windy weather this weekend. I was outside about 9 tonight and came in to get the dog for her last walk of the night and in the 15 minutes I was in the house the wind went from almost calm from the south to probably 15 to 20 out of the north. Heard 30 to 40 mentioned on the wx radio forecast for this weekend. Stay home and work on your tackle and boat and honey doo's.

Good and safe fishing folks, Jay

I was told by a guy at BPS one time that LL was not classified as a "fishing Lake" so it was not mapped or installed on the HDS-w/Insights. You can buy a LL specific chip at BPS but it's like $100.00

Bassfan Is LL a Corp of Engr lake? 100$ sounds like I'll do with out and try to learn the lake with TTF fans and trial and error.

I did not see you lawdawg, what time were you out? we did fish the old dam cut and I caught my first 2 there on a 7/8"yellow/chart slab with 2 roadrunner jigs above it. We did catch a few non keepers but nothing like you and wife did. Even the dinks are fun when they are hitting that way. We were probably at the old dam from 10 to 11 or so. about half of ours were14-15" and the rest around 11". i did not find anything in their guts which surprized me. Only one of the cats had well digested meal in it, the other empty. They have to be turning on soon or they will starve.

Jist finished cleaning our mess of fish. Cleaning is always the unfun part of fishing but now the fun of eating them starts now.
