Well hit the lake before sunrise and started throwing some shaky heads and a little top water stuff too. Had a few blow ups on the top water stuff but no real takers to speak of. Moved out to about 10’-14’ and the shaky head started to work quite well. Picked up about 6-8 fish in the next hour or so. All the fish were nice fish between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs. We then decided to go check out a few deeper water spots and found a good grass bed off towards a bank and it was just to good to pass up. Good thing we fished it too! We picked up 4 fish in the next few minutes and one being real close to 5 lbs. Then moved to some reeds and picked up a few more with a jig. Then we started chasing schooling fish in anywhere from 18’-60’ of water. This was about 9:30 am and continued to do that until about 2:30 pm. After it was all said and done we boated about 45-50 fish with only one fish that was under 2 lbs and 4 that were over 4 lbs. I really think that we would have done better if the wind was not as strong and the schoolies would have been up a little more. Every time the wind would lay down the schoolies would come up and if we were within casting distance we would boat 2-4 of the fat little footballs. They were so full that would sling about 3-5 dead shad on the deck of the boat when we landed them. For me this is the best day I have ever had on this lake. I know many others have had much better days but even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.

Thanks for the report. I still need to spend some time working on the deep bite to expand my options.

It really was not a deep bite at all for us they were on top and we just threw into the school that was busting. I have a few deep water spots on that lake but I am not a very good deep water angler. I just hate it but i am realizing that I need it in my bag of tricks to be successful.
