Our boat weighs about 2500 lbs. I pull it with a 2011 1/2 ton chevy 5.3 z71 and get around 15 a little better or worse.
I would recomend you look at the ecoboost, I have heard alot of good things about them.

I pull with my toyota tacoma. Its not stock to say the least its lifted and on 35" tires. I get around 15mpg not pulling and around 10mpg pulling my boat. I really need to drop the lift off this truck soon.

I've learned that when I read MPG threads on a forum, to take the mileage reported and reduce it by 25% to get closer to real world MPG.
+100.... The best I've ever got was 18.6 with my 6.7L 2008 Dodge 4WD Mega Cab, and the best I've ever got towing anything with it is 13.8.

I often wonder why people want to know their towing MPG? I reckon it must be a curiosty thing 'cuz it sure don't stop you from towing. I get crappy gas milage when towing my little ole boat, heck my truck get's crappy milage when it ain't towing my little ole boat. I just figure that into the cost of indulging in my passions. If you haul for business I could see where this might be relevant, but taking the younguns fishin or just spending time on the water to clear your head should be your only concern. At least that's my only concern when I get to get away form the rat race. Didn't mean to side track this post.

Carry On Anytime it costs money its relevant. I have to spend my money wisely in order to make it go around. If I was making enough that spending did not matter I would not bother. I calculate each and every tank I drive whether its in my truck or one of my cars. I can determine from different tanks what allows my truck or car to operate most efficiently.

Agree with Allison: anytime I spend money, it's relevant.
