Went fishin with ninja (Jason) and Tim (txrayner) yesterday. We had a great time. I actually got skunked but Tim got his PB lmb, grats to Tim. Ninja got into a few.
Anyway, about 9:30 we were done and decided to head out. At the ramp a man and his wife were loading up a boat so while waiting for them we witnessed an really sad scene.
The man walks over to a brush pile near the water and pulls up a stringer of bass at least 10 maybe more and all the bass were easily over 21". He tosses them in a ice chest and heads out. My jaw dropped... Not because of awe but disapointment that some people have no regard for the sport. I Shot a eye to Tim and Jason and from their looks they were equally shocked.
He had been there all night I suspect fishing with shiners. I know legally he was in his right to keep them if he wasn't over limit, but I don't thInk I have ever seen that before. On the lake we were in it can't sustain that kind of loss Repeatly and still be a good fishery. It will recover but when I see that and know that every time that happens it lessens the chance for people to have a oppurtunity to experience a morning like I had with my daughter the day before just so some can have a 10 min dinner.

I agree but I also give Texas Parks and Wildlife some credit in that if they say 5 fish per angler per day then the lake can sustain it. I believe they take things like this into account when they decide on length limits and numbers. Surley they know that a few people are going to keep everything no matter the size. If the lake would suffer from it then they would change the laws on that lake. If he had more than his limit then shame on him and his day will come.

I totally agree with you.I rarely keep fish and when I do I only keep a very select few fish to eat, never huge fish and never more than I will eat in maybe 2 meals. But as long as he was all legal he is totally within his rights. At least he was gonna eat them, presumably. I only kill for meat and would personally never kill for a trophy or just for "sport". THAT is what really bugs me.

I rarely keep LMB, only if he is in the legal size and if it was hooked bad. It is his freaking legal right to keep his legal limit. More folks get too worked up over legal catches. I myself catch [censored] from the catfish folks complaining at me for keeping so many cats, none have been trophy size this year and the trophy size don't really taste all that great anyway. As long as I'm legal they can all kiss my carp.

As often as I get to fish if I kept my limit every time I went it would not make a dent in the population. If people do not keep fish then they will overpopulate and start to decline just as it would if hunters were not harvesting deer, duck, geese etc.! I never get upset when people legally fish and hunt but if they are doing it illegally then that is a whole different story! BigDozer66

I eat a lot of fish, and I keep a lot of fish. As long as he was at or under his limit per person, then I don't see what the fuss is about. LMB tastes great.
Why is disrepesectful to the sport to keep and eat fish? That is the foundation of fishing. People used to fish out of necessity to feed themselves, and while use the sport as pure entertainment now, other still do it for food.

It's 10 LMB trophies 21" and larger (there were plenty on that stinger that were 24"), that was disappointing. Yes its legal, I never said it wasn't. So yes it is disrespecting the sport to slaughter 2 limits of trophy Large mouth bass. You wont change my mind on that. I know Im not the only one who feels that way. Legal...yes. Respectful... no..

From a trophy hunter perspective it stinks to loose bass that large to a stringer. From a meat eaters perspective the species doesn't really matter I guess. I've eaten bass from lakes that promote harvesting the smaller bass and just don't care for the taste. I would have to chase Crappie, or Catfish if I was a meat eater.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19
