I ordered a 5wt and had it shipped to me over here in the Mid-East to practice my casting. Last year we went down to South Padre and I booked a trip out of Island Outfitters. Capt Bill put me on some fish but I missed a lot of opportunities because my cast always seemed to be about 10-30ft short! mad

My wife is sending me a package with some tying material and a reel so I can practice my double haul. Come December the reds and specks on the flats better watch out! laugh

A 5 wt. may be a bit wimpy for castin big flys and the wind of S Texas. I tried a 6 and did'nt like it. The 8 wt. seems to be good for longer casts and an all around good inshore rod with lots of backbone... Good luck

Try that 5wt with a 6wt bass bug ot salt water taper. I have the Signature I and it likes being overlined.

So you'll be home for Thanksgiving? Maybe you can come out and hit the flounder run at Galveston with me? I plan on about a week of flounder this year.
