HD is a designation for the Industries Highest Pixel Count Screens in 5" Versison 640 x 640 Pixels. Plus on the 700 Series it signifies the unit is Ethernet Compatible. And yes the 597ci HD is LakeMaster Compatible. It's on the list: http://www.lakemap.com/documents/HB_compatibilityPage_2012.pdfAnd has the same features for customizing the maps.

Hey Doug I just bought a 788ci hd di and a 778c hd. I noticed that for the 2d sonar the 788 has angles of 16* and 25* and for the 778 degrees of 20* and 60* why are these different? also noticed on the si units they have the 20/60 dual. why not 20/60 on di only units?

2D units feature Dual Beam Plus Sonar 200kHz @ 20 and 83kHz 2 60
DI Models do not have 83kHz Transmitter. So 2D sonar 200kHz @ 20 and 455 kHz @ 16 on the DI Models.

Doug, I just installed a new 1198 and want to convert my HDS waypoints to it. I downloaded them to an SD card but, the HB manual refers to Humminbird PC as a software program I need to use. I contacted support via phone and was told I could download it from the website. I have since searched the website trying to locate it without luck. I had to wait on the phone forever to talk to someone and don't want to have to do that again. So, I sent an email for support help, sent it and got an auto response saying it will take 3 to 5 business days for a reply! Is this the great service I'm to expect from HB in the future? IS the software an option that I have to purchase to convert my old waypoints to the new 1198? Just curious what I've gotten myself into. And, my primary reason to purchase HB was their reputation for serice.

When you register your unit and set up an account under your account will be several software downloads one being the most current unit software and another is Humminbird PC program them a couple conversion programs if you use 3rd Party software to view sonar recordings. This video should show the steps to set up account and download software including Humminbird PC: http://youtu.be/-TZtvcpzQRM

Doug, I set up an account and registered my units but, didn't see or didn't know I could download HumminbirdPC...and now I can't find it. I did download my waypoints from the HDS unit and was able to use GPX format to do it. (built into Lowrance) I went out a while ago and loaded the SD chip into my 1198 but, it did not show me the waypoints and in fact didn't see the Navionics chip for some reason. Is there something I need to change to see the two SC chips?

You have to have the waypoints in a Matrix folder so the unit see it. Go to your account and look under your registered units and the HB PC Program will be there. When you export it will create the folder and insert the waypoints. I would not recommend installing on your Navionics or any map card, You should use a blank SD Card.

Thanks Doug, I found it, just looking in the wrong place. And you are also correct, never mix programs on an SD chip. Are you also expert in diagnoising interference problems?

HB Customer Service is the best to work with RF Noise but what do you need?

Just spent my first few hours on the water with a new 597. This is my first DI unit (heck, it's the first new graph I've had in MANY years). Wondering if anyone could help interpret some things on this picture for me. 1. What is the vertical "fuzz" between 20 and 30 feet? 2. What are the perfectly straight diagonal lines that show up on the sonar view? There's a few on the DI view, but very faint and show up in different places than the sonar view. Thanks a lot for your help! I really think I am going to have a lot of fun with this. Have a few more pictures I would like to get input on but Photobucket isn't my friend right now. Look forward to hearing your responses.

The "fuzz" is the thermocline.
The diagonal lines could be gas bubbles-they look that way because the screen is scrolling and/or you are moving as they rise.
Learn how to use the screen snaphot feature so your posted images will be clearer than that camera shot.

Thermocline or Temperature Cline...I would suspect Temp Cline since fish are in that area.
Angled up could be air bubbles, fish on the outer edge of the cone moving, or single bait fish attracted by the sound of sonar.
