It doesnt have 200 tournaments a year either Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! All these people talking about "Tournaments don't affect fishing or Catch and Release is the best thing for bass population" really don't understand everything there is to know about bass science. We discussed this a little while ago in the "Why haven't there been any 16-18-20-22 pounders caught in great numbers lately like there were several years ago?" thread. BigDozer66

i think its because of GPS anyone that can push a button on a unit and go to spots that used to take work to find ....they sit out there all week hammering on the fish [while im at work] finally the fish get smart and stop biting those little funny looking critters that makes em go flying up out of the water in to a boat .

If you are "SPOT" fishing Rayburn it may work on 1 out of 10 places but you need to figure out the pattern and there is definitely a pattern to catching them right now on Rayburn...

Rayburn is tough right now... No the "trap bite" aint on either Big Ron, and undoubtably the drop shot bite is off because you and the "Pro" have not caught them.... LOL.. Still ways to catch them, and it is really not much tougher than normal for July and August... I do agree the fishing pressure has made Rayburn a bit more difficult, but someone always catches them..... I fish it almost every weekend and the bite is getting better, but still not great...

I agree the bite is tough right now but I don't attribute it to tournament pressure. I think it is due to the time of the year. In the spring time the fish are easier to catch so nobody complains. There are portions of the lake that typically have fish biting but this year did not do so good (Buck Bay is one area). Does that mean that ALL the tournament anglers have OVERFISHED that area? Not really. And there were other areas that did very good. The Canyons did pretty good earlier but now it's like the dead sea. My point is that people tend to get stuck in a fishing rut and don't try and expand their fishing abilities. It's like if they can't catch Frog Fish then the fish on Rayburn aren't biting. Same thing for the Trap Fish or the deep water fish. But really it's more seasonal and we all have to ADAPT. The fish are still there. They have not "packed up their overnight bags and left" and I haven't seen a large number of fish die after tournaments. If tournaments were killing the lake then there would be "boo-koo" fish up the rivers where tournament anglers shy away from.

I think the fish have learned the tourney schedules for the most part and just suspend in deep water till monday lol... I caught one checking his outlook calendar the other day

They have not "packed up their overnight bags and left" and I haven't seen a large number of fish die after tournaments. If tournaments were killing the lake then there would be "boo-koo" fish up the rivers where tournament anglers shy away from. What makes you think that you would see a large number of fish die after tournaments ?? All fish sink to the bottom right when they die and most of them never make it to the surface because they get eaten by turtles or gar. The ones that become floaters are in the minority, so there could be large numbers of bass that die after tournaments that are never seen by the public. Don't understand your logic behind thinking that there would be a bunch of fish upriver if tournaments were killing fish down in the lake. Don't get that logic at all, help me understand it because the way I see it, the number of those fish would not increase or decrease if fish down the lake died or flourished. There is no impact to them one way or the other.
