After about 20 years of military service and retirement approaching, I think I deserve about a week or so fishing. I thought about a trip to Falcon but the drought is deterring me from heading down there.

So I came up with a list of lakes that might make the trip worthwhile in November.

I would like to hear from ya'll what you think would be the best lake to spend some time on for a retirement vacation.

Congrats! Hey, don't give-up on Falcon so quickly. I'm thinking when the water cools down a bit the fishing will start heating-up again. Also, Amistad's not too shaby either.

Thanks for your service and congrats on retiring.

I'm with JPost. I would still look at a trip to Falcon and/or Amistad.

Congrats on the retirement Bassalope and thanks for the service. I've got a couple of tours to SWA myself. I would definitley agree with Troy and Jpost, Falcon or Amistead both offer a better chance of the trip of a lifetime than the other lakes on your list.

Forget those lakes, go to Falcon.

Looking at the alternative options. Currently Falcon is about 40 feet below pool and I don't foresee any significant rain in the next two months to bring up the water level. Plus, isn't Falcon down to just one boat ramp for launching? I've also been hearing that the bass have been in a funk lately.

The alternative lakes in the list have largemouth/smallmouth populations and I do enjoy boating smallmouth.

Bassalope,
Welcome to the fraternity. Why not look at a trip to Amistad. Beautiful lake, great fishing and away from the rat race.

Falcon at these levels is more typical than it was when it was full. As a matter of fact Falcon was prett y tough back in 2008 when it first got full this cycle -- there was too much new water for me at times and I struggled. Do what you want but if you want your best shot at a trip of a life time you can't find a better place than Falcon right now.

And they'll always be places to launch--just might not be as pretty as paved, multi lane ramps.

Just got back from Falcon. It was fishing tough but the big girls still came out to play. You just have to grind it out. First day best 5 went 39 pounds and the kicker was 9.13. Second day best 5 went 32 pounds and the kicker was 8.11. Both days we caught less then 20 fish though. Still where else in the world are you going to do that.

I voted for Belton because you can use the BLORA facities. But if it were me I would go to El Salto. You only retire once and after 20 years you deserve it!

Congrats on hitting retirement! I say go even bigger, Canada, New Zealand or Argintina! Or if staying closer to home I would check on AFVCLUB.com get a rental for a week on a nice week and chill. They have a nice resort on palistine (the villages)
