any body throwing micro crank baits on the fly ????
if so, please discuss the details
rods, weights, leaders, whose cranks, where etc...

The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas
is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

StePraDal, IMO anything you can throw on a flyrod is a "fly".... go for it! I have been "tarred and feathered" by the non-believers in the past for trying new stuff and it's fun - thats what it's all about - "Have fun with this stuff" I know nuthin' about micro crank baits but I would think they would be wind resistant so would choose tackle suitable for throwing big bass bugs. If they have small treble hooks I would change to small barbless hooks - not to protect fish but the fisherman..  George

My personal experience has been that it takes at least an eight weight rod to passably toss even the smallest of these sorts of baits. And I didn't have that much fun with it.
I don't have anything against doing this. It's just that using an ultralight spinning rod seems like would be a lot more fun than a fly rod.
But if you can sort something out that lets you have fun with it, I say more power to you!!

When you say crank bait are you talking rattle trap/rapalas?
Tube flys and spoons come to mind. Id like to see a size 10 spinner bait.

Seriously, I threw these "propellarheads" for the first year and a half of my fishing career... never caught a dang thing. On the other hand, I tossed a lot of flies in my first year and a half of fly fishing... and never caught a dang thing. Personally, I am angry and embittered about those stupid things. J.
