Does anybody else's flat bottom cavitate or vent in moderate chop at high speeds? #7932497 08/28/12 11:59 PM

My hull is technically an aluminum bass hull (1995 G3), but is completely flat on most of the hull. I know part of the issue is because the hull is in rough shape (very wavy from the PO jumping stumps and whatnot).

But I am curious if some of the air that is mixing into the prop area is just due to the design of flat hulls (when I'm going 20 mph)? Motor is a 96 Suzuki DT40, transom height is 20"

Pretty common if you're running a junk 3 blade prop, get with steve and let him hook you up with a good stainless 4 blade, you'll be way happier.

Okay. Thanks for the response, Pat. Well, I just put a brand new Turning Point SS prop on a while back. Did not reduce the venting any. I'm just wondering if it's all attributed to the wavy hull or if flats are susceptible to this in rough chop... hmmm

PS Pat - love the tunnel hull. Very sweet ride all around.

Your enemy here is air...bubbles, vents, whatever, your prop hates air in any manner when it's running. So, yes, waves, bumps, anything that disturbs the water flow will indeed make life hard on that prop.

Cheap fix *might* be to send to steve and let him run some "flats" cup on what you've got, it won't hurt. Better fix is a four blade that keeps digging in clean water and will take most of the cavitation away.

Or lower your motor, but that's no fun...
