I'm asking this question in the catfish, carp, and bank fishing sections to get more input from different species fisherman.

Anyway, I got set up this morning with some chicken liver, shad, night crawlers, and canned corn hoping to get catfish or carp. Sat for an hours without so much as a bite. Moved maybe 50 yards? Caught 8-10 carp in 2 hours. All on corn.

How long do you wait til you move spots?

I never did get a bite on anything else.

When it comes to catfish I will move every 30min or so if no bites.

15-20 mins.. I'll give Flatheads a lil longer

im more likely to move when im in the boat. once i get back into the swing of things after the baby, im going to get a bank wagon, which will make it alot easier to move. in the boat usually after i make the first full drift, or if im anchored, ill move after 30 minutes or so, ill give a bank spot an hour before ill consider it, and if i do move, it usually takes a couple hours to talk myself into it. but thats part of the reason i dont catch fish like some of these guys who are willing to put that extra effort in to move to the fish.

15-30 minutes after the last rod is in the water.

Wow. Not a very patient bunch are we here? I'm surprised the consensus seems to be so fast. Now I'm thinking I have been wasting a lot of time playing the bait and wait game.

I should have made it clear earlier that I was bank fishing for anything that would bite but mainly hoping I guess for channels. Didn't figure there would be blues or flatties in the lake cove I was at.

Bank access has a lot to do with how much i will move. If im catfishing, i might move however far i can up and down the bank i am fishing, but im not loading up the truck and moving to a different part of the lake. I go fishing to relax, not work

If your fishing from the bank for channels get some range cubes and throw a couple hand fulls out,move down a couple hundred feet and throw another couple hand fulls out. Go back and fish with punch bait in the first spot. If you don't get some action in thirty minutes move to the second spot. If you don't do any good there move to another cove.

If you chum a spot and don't get a bite in twenty to thirty minutes there are no channelcat there so you might as well move

Remember on cats don't throw over them. Always put a line out close to shore. Alot of channelcat are caught three feet from the bank and less.
