I love how all the biologists say Gar only eat shad primarily and aren't a threat to game fish, then pictures like this always pop up with bass and other fish in their mouths.


They are a massive nuisance down here, there populations are exploding with a daily bag limit of 1 and no-one fishing for them.

I remember back in the early 90's there were some guys commercially fishing for them on choke. I think i remember them saying they went to falcon too. They would pack them live on ice in the back of a longbed truck then haul it to new orleans. They were pulling in 500lbs and more every trip.

I wonder if anyone still does this down there? They used a modified jugline system. Prett cool to watch them come in with an old center console and huge gar piled up 3ft high

Yeah 1/day is About retarded. They say the trinity is running low population wise on them. I don't know where hell they took their tests at but they sure aren't diminishing around here. There are more gator gar down here and on these lakes then I have ever seen before. Heck I watched a 6' swimming by the jetties last week in Sabine. Yeah that's at the jetties

My first trip down there, someone caught a 267lb gar. There is a pic in falcon tackle shop..

I wish they would come take a couple million from down here to restock the trinity with, this is a strong breading population, need to spread those good genes and get these overpopulated fish out of here.
