I'm thinking of fishing the Oakley Big Bass in September. Don't know anything about the lake. If anyone doesn't mind sharing some insight on the lake I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Look around for reports posted by OldArmy. Conroe info will get real tight-lipped between now and then.
The lake has zero grass. Most, if not all of the timber south of the 1097 bridge was cut off when the lake was low, as well as some of it north of the bridge.
Right now it is 2.55' below full pool.

No channel markers. You really need to know the North end if you want to run wide open. South of the bridge is OK in the main body of the lake.

it is about to be my favorite time of year for conroe. that is pretty close to a good boating map, but as with all of them, there are a few stumps scattered around that are borderline being in the shown "boating lanes". as long as you stay south of the 1097 bridge, and dont gun it in the backs of the coves, youll be fine. and the name of the game will be pretty simple...find the structure(ledges and brush piles) and baitfish. but this time of year with the tournaments and such, conroe becomes very hush hush

Conroe is an amazing lake! Right now you want to flip the boat docks. I've found the ones that are to be most effective are 5ft to 10ft deep. If we get a cool front in that cools the water off flip the shallow ones. The trap and crank bait bite should turn on later this month but the cold weather is going to be the main factor that assist that bite. I do good on plum worms. I use the 7in Xcite plum worm or a black and blue jig with an Xcite midnight flash trailer. Those conroe bass love the scent that the Xcite has. I caught a 9.7 off a bed this past year. Took me 5 flips to get her to bite. Fish the points with in the major coves on the south end with carolina rigs and spinnerbaits. If you see the shad on top of the water go with the spinnerbait. If not go with the c rig! Fish both sides of the lake(east and west). The south end is pretty much safe to run. Make sure you have a good map thats detailed! Also Be extremely careful running above the 1097 Bridge!!! Stumps are everywhere. If you decide to fish up there find someone with a nice rig and follow behind them to get a trail LOL.
Good fishing!

Any idea of public ramps. Thanks There is a dual ramp off FM 830 that is free, I've used it a few times and vehicle was safe when parked.

Has anyone fished north of 1097 lately? I fished south last Saturday and Monday and they seem to have disappeared!

I would say you have been lucky from what I have heard at 830. Almost all of the ramps on the south end are $10. I use Inland alot. Stowaway is a great place to launch, just a long drive from my house. Shoot me an IM if you have any questions I can help with.
