A fishing report...on a fishing forum? no way! YES!

I've been trying to fish as much as possible ...my Kayakwar teamate Glenn has been putting in some miles offshore and KILLING IT! offshore so guess its time for me to put in the effort in the bay again...

8/20

I launched out of baffin and fought the high winds again...

The water was coming up and i knew with the winds being as strong as they are my redfish spot would be on fire....

walking out to it i came across this unlucky hardhead that broke off on someones float...

30 minutes of daylight left and the reds were crawling all around chasing some mullet....

5 casts and i had strung up a limit of fiesty redfish...now my oops..

i paddled over to my drum spot and caught a good keeper drum...i untied the stringer and dropped it in the water ...reached down and grabbed the line when i pulled it up....

*sigh*

I grabbed the wrong side and the reds slid off my stringer Noooooo! Second time i have done this..the last being with a limit of drum =(

anyways I kept at it ....then the wind died...it was quiet....wind shifted from the north....then the rain picked up ...trouble!

I had one drum on the stringer and was getting rained on pretty good...i kept hearing what i thought was thunder so i was debating weather to leave or not...

i packed up and then halfway i stopped...looked around and said "to hell with it if lightning shows up im already good to paddle my [censored] off"

anchored up and casted out..it was ON!

Pulled in a quick limit full of triples and doubles..i was headed back 10 minutes later with a limit of drum and lightning on the horizon...

8/21 The morning!

Up at 4 AM heading towards the water...

I get to my launch spot and already bad news...gas gauge had me at 1 gallon oops..

and the north wind was blowing harder then predicted oops...

i get out the truck and walk around to the kayak and the 2 local dogs come up to say hello...i start petting them and in the brush i hear GRRR!

its still dark so i cant really see whats in there then a black stray dog comes into my headlight range growling..

now its between me and the escape route..i tried to get to the door but had to take a step close to it and it jumps on me wrapping its teeth around my arm but doesnt bite....like a threat....

i clocked it in the head and made a dash for the truck....

managed to get gass close by and opted for another launch spot...

aside from hearing a drum, seeing a red, and a pop from a trout on top that dog bite was the best i had all day...

8/21 The night!

Determined to get more kayak war points and a head start on offshore the next day i headed out to Bird island to find some bigger drum...the 16"-18" minimum is killer this year...

camp was set and the sunset was killer!

The night was slow for me and Erick_CSF

pulled out some nice drum but not the action i was expecting...

These little buggers kept scratching on my tent all night Arghh!

Continued!!!

8/22 Offshore!

The next morning came by quickly and was set for a offshore trip with good company... Robert, Prof. Salt, Spots, Alex, Blowrey

The surf was awesome and we were pumped up!

on the way out we came across schools of snapper, spades, almacos..some were in the upper 20's but every cast a almaco or small snapper would grab it first...we did however pull 2 keepers out before we lost them...

made our way to the rig and i got a glimpse of the barracuda that was rumored to be around there and damn he looked beat up...

i snagged myself a nice spadefish on the way out and met up with the rest of the guys...

Fishing was slow at our rigs ...the snapper bite died pretty quickly...triggerfish were a pain attacking everything...and every jig i dropped was hit by a freaking ladyfish...

after a while the no breeze and sun got to everyone and we became pretty lazy

We called it a day and headed back in ...

8/23 Back to baffin...

Made it out last night water was up and wind was blowing...met with yakattack and stangman at launch we all had drum on the mind...

after a hard paddle i made it to another redfish spot i like...one saw one big drum and a redfish that spooked though so with sun heading down i headed back in to find the drum...

didnt take too long for me to get a limit and i was out of there the wind was brutal..

It was a good few days of fishing and ill likely keep doing it until school starts up again...

T'ill next time..
Life is good...
