Hi! I am screwed. I messed up, my anchor came aloose and my boat drifted back, I was trying to reset my location and got a line hung up on the motor. I took the screw out of the lower unit and water poured out. I would love to fix it myself and save some money, can anyone walk me through the procedures necessary to replace the seals, or is there a mechanic near Arlington that can help me? the motor is a 1999 200HP mercury blue water series.

If i remember the pic i posted when u got it, where the lower unit bolts to the midsection looked jacked up and was leaking from get go. My guess is it was leaking from the get go and you prob wont like what a shop will tell you.

Call Pat at AAA marine. He has a good lower unit off of a 200 merc. #972 262 8566. It came from a friend of mine last week and I know it was in good shape.

I am thinking about going to buy the repair manual for this boat and do it myself. I would like to know if fun and sun and ski in Hurst has the parts I need or if I should order the parts online... I dont care if I mess it up, these guys want $400 to change a seal that is too much.

Sorry if I am just thinking out loud but... I was thinking, I didn't pay all that much for this motor, why would I pay $460 to fix a seal? for that price I could buy 50 bottles of gear oil and run a IV down there in case it leaks back out. Anyway I got the manual and now I am trying to run down these seals so I dont have to order them online. It would be cool if we could find step by step instructions on how to fix a boat on TEXAS FISHING FORUM. I guess then those guys at the marine place wouldn't be making $600 an hour. I used CATFISH SKINNERS to remove my bottom lower unit shaft seal. I think the inside seal is still good but I am debating on if I should change it too.

Pull the second seal out too. They are around 10 bucks. You are half way there now. If that was the only damage, you're done.

the bearing carrier needs to come out to put the seals in an when this is done it needs to be pressure tested to make sure it holds .also need to clean up to prop shaft in the area where the seals are with some real fine emory cloth.

We charge 3hrs labor to reseal a lower $255 + parts about $50+/-for a seal kit 17.99 for a impeller and 15 for lube that is doing ALL the seals in the lower unit and pressure testing it.
