Almost stepped on this fellow. I was carrying a piece of 3/4" plywood to build a platform base on a deer stand. Walked within a foot of it and it never rattled, nor did I see it. The guy behind me saw it and shot it. We have heard because of the Feral hogs that the rattlesnakes have quit rattling due to surviving being eaten by the hogs. We kill 2 of them in the first two days and saw another another about 8' long. This one had 9 rattles and the other one had 10.

You could also get $25,000 for that 8 footer. Where's it at? I'll go get it. Snakes are fun to play with, especially rattlers. lol

If you see that 8-footer again, capture it alive. It will be a world record. Yes it would. Steve, I spend a lot of time in S TX from now 'til next Feb. I never go anywhere in the brush without snake boots unless it's cold enough not to worry about rattlers. Biggest I've ever seen or killed was 77.5 inches nose to end of last button. Almost got me while I was reaching around a bush to pick up a quail. I also stepped barefoot at night within' three inches of a 54" while shooting a hog under the full moon. I was using an old concrete water trough for a rest and the snake was stretched out up against the cement. When I fired the snake started rattling. Jumped straight backwards. Let me tell ya, that time in the air seemed like forever, wondering if I had jumped the right direction. Fortunately I did. Went back inside and traded my .222 for a .22, a surefire and my snake boots! I've been hit in the snake boots twice! Get some if you're in rattler country much!
