Interesting. You never hear anything about it around here.

not many, plenty of keepers to catch. Its the guys that can find 12-14lbs to win it. If we get some big rains and both lakes dump water, it will be muddy and flowing

I've heard about fishing the Sabine, but thats about it. I had no idea it would be considered a bass fishery. I doubt anybody drives from Houston to Orange to bass fish.

I bet people will drive from Houston to the weighin, this will be a big deal to the area and good for local business.

I will show up

Thanks, Billy

Glad to see John pulled the right strings! There's a lot of water to fish, its going to be interesting to see where they will target. I really doubt there will be many anglers actually fishing the Sabine.

I was looking at Google Map and there is lots of water they could possibly fish. Not sure about the access to some of the areas or what the off limits would be. I wonder if they would they let them go into Louisiana?

Yes they will be allowed to fish Louisiana since half of the sabine river is in Louisiana waters. And calcaseiu can have some great fishing. All of the water they are going to be able to fish, Sabine, Neches, Calcaseiu and all the small bayou's in between are capable of producing 15lb stringers. It's not the easiest river system in the world to figure out but they are there. Just have to know how to figure them out, which is exactly why Jerry and BASS wanted this event here. Its a change of scenery from the typical lakes That we see every year on ESPN.

This will be a real challenge for these guys. We have driven from Houston just to fish the working man's tournaments during the week and it can be tough!

You can run out of good fish areas quickly. Miles and Miles of river(s) doesn't mean miles and miles of fish!

I agree with hig25, I've fished the Sabine for over 35 years and it can be really good or really tough depending on conditions and where you are fishing. But that describes bass fishing on most public waters. Those La. marshes can hold some nice fat bass in the spring. We will probably see some good weights but the challenge is going to be staying on good keepers throughout the tournament.....but that also describes most tournaments regardless of where they are held. I'm excited for Orange to be hosting this event, and looking forward to it.

The distance they run to catch fish wont be a problem. They run 60 miles or more on a regular basis during alot of their normal tournaments. I fish the sabine alot but not the neches or its bayous. How far can you go in the neches? Can you get far enough in Taylors to get to the good fish?

I think the Calacasieu river can produce the winning stringer for this tournament. there are some really nice fish on that river. several 8's have been released on the river a couple years ago and a 10 lber was caught last year by an old man white perch fishing with a shiner. Its now mounted on the wall at "The tackle box" in Sulphur. Our club tournament this past saturday brought in 13 1/2 lbs for first place anchored by an almost 7 lb bass. he also had one almost 4. Ill try to post the picture.

Here's 2 of the fish that made up the 13.5 lb stringer this weekend on the calcasieu. This guy produces fish like this almost every tourny on this river.

wow - good fish.

I think people are going to be surprised at what this river system produces. between Taylors Bayou, Neches, Sabine, Calcasieu and all of the marsh in between it should be very fun to watch.
