I have owned several of both. I prefer the Basscat! Faster and not sore after a day fishing in rough water.

How do you like the trolling motor pedal so close to the front ? Speed is not an issue for me. It's not if you get there first. It's how you fish the spot that will matter.

The trolling motor pedal looks odd at first but once you start using it you will like it.
Both companies build a great boat
But I do think you would like the overall quality and customer service Bass Cat has to offer

Hope this helps and tight lines.

If you want to keep the boat forever the both are great. If you want the best resale then Ranger ! They seem to hold the value better if you watch the blue books. Just my opinion.
Anytime you would like a test ride/drive in a new Ranger or my 2011 Z521 give me a call. I am right by the lake so in 15 min we can be on the water.

Never had a ranger but have owned a few others. Bass cat is family owned and really treats you "like family". Rangers are nice boats with good customer service as well but sure seems to me you pay several thousands more just for the name alone. When JD Powers or whatever name they were, tracked customer service ratings for bass boats a few years back Bass cat won like 5 years in a row. Folks will tell you that it was rigged or bass cat paid for that award but those same guys never owned a cat.

Both are great boats. IMO, the only issue I would have would be the narrow beam Basscat has up front. It allows way to much side to side action on the fishing platform for a good sized fella. I feel the same way about Triton. Ranger and Skeeter have something figured out with their decks, by far the best fishing platforms I've personally been on. Regardless I dont think you can go wrong with either brand, but you should certainly spend a day on the size and style Basscat your considering buying to get a feel for how it fishes... we all know those Kitties will RUN like a scalded dog!

Both Build great boats. I have owned both, I have not priced them in a while but you used to could get into a cat for alot cheaper than a equal size Ranger. I would put them = in quality construction, materials used. Basscat on customer service, Basscat on overall run business (standing behind there product). Ranger on resale (however you do pay alot more up frount) Basscat on ride and handling and speed. Dont think you can go wrong with either but I would deffinatly choose Basscat.

I have been running a 2002 Ranger 522 and love the room...if I changed boats it would be hard to choose between a Ranger, Basscat or Legend...I love all three boats.

Well since I traded in my coverall and my complimentary Ranger coffee mug and got a new sleek windbreaker and have switched over to red bull I am having to adjust a bit. I feel a bit quicker and lighter although I don't feel like I have all my creature comforts.
Pro's and Con's so far:
Ranger Covers and Trailers - very hard to beat. I haven't had a boat cover as good as the Ranger especially for travel and probably never will. Ranger fit and finish was top notch. Very comfortable boat to drive in almost all situations from high speed, to rough water to launching and loading. You could literally drive it with your knee even at 60+ Storage was second to none and some of that is model dependent but I had a 520ZX so it had great storage. All accessories were top notch from the rod straps to the locks on the rod lockers. This boat was a battleship, waves did not bother it and it was very stable in the wind.
BassCatt Pantera Classic - Wow this boat is fast. Much better cooler design and the livewell is much better. Very deep and independently aerated. Easy to access hoses and bilges in the engine compartment. Very well made boat as well, no corners cut and like the Ranger all storage compartments are fiberglass not plastic inserts. Very little in the way of creature comforts and the storage is a bit to be desired. The boat weighs a fraction of the Ranger and so far has handled rougher water pretty dang good. But...it's an older boat with a narrower bow and in general they cut the waves better. Wow this boat is fast.
However, this is a bit like comparing a Camaro to a Cadillac. These models of boats are in different categories IMO.Truth be told, both are excellent boats. The Ranger just really in the end wasn't as much my style as the Cat. The cat is no frills, fast and easily accessible for maintenance.
