Yes. That way when you're graphing and drop a waypoint, it will also be displayed on your front graph. Ff they're both at the console, no. I used my 1198 for graphing SI and down imaging. The 998 was in dash and used for navigation and waypoints. The 998 was linked to the Bird up front.

Is there a way to link them were you can use like a Lakemaster chip at the console and have it show up front to or you just have to have two cards 898's.

I don't know the answer to your question about sharing the Lakemaster chip but, it is very easy to link them up using an ethernet cable...assuming the two units are compatable.
I have a 788 and linked it to my new 1198...as simple as attaching the cable between the two ethernet ports.

Ya I have them linked together but there's supposed to be a way to use just one chip and see it on both units I think its a setting just don't know what.

No mapping is shared between units with anyone's equipment and never has been with recreational sonar/GPS.
Each has to have its own mapping software.

Mapping Charts are read only by the unit they are installed on. Not Digital Data that can be shared to other units.

Yes! I have a 798 on the console and a 788 on the bow connected by ethernet.
The 798 is having trouble locking on to GPS so I switched it to use the 788 GPSup front. Worked like a champ.
Although I have a Lakemaster in the 788 and a Navionics in the 798 they share Waypoints just fine.
This is cool stuff!

I too have my 1198 and 788 etherneted together. I understand the issue about sharing mapping on two separate units but, it would be nice if those of us that have multiple HB's if we could get a hefty discount for buying the Lakemaster chips.
I do plan to order one and will run it from my 1198 on the console but, I won't order two chips due to the cost. Don't really need one for the bow mounted 788 but, it would be nice and I'd pay a little bit more for a second one. I'm sure Lakemaster would be worried that someone would pool their money with someone else and get the second chip making it cheaper for both guys BUT, that could easily be worked around. If you have two HB's registered with HB, that are link compatible they could control one of the chips by offering it as a lesser package..not full featured maybe? At least they would get something for the second chip... cause they sure aren't going to by making me pay full price for the second one. I'll get by just fine with one but, would like the second.
Just my opinion.
