I am trying to help my nephew out with a motor he recently bought. The T&T is not functioning correctly. When the motor is trimmed up or down it makes loud poping sound as the motor moves. According to my nephew the sound appears to be coming from one of the 2 cylinders for the T&T system. In addition to this the motor will occasionally hang up and you have to physically push it up or down to get it to "catch up" to the T&T motor. The fluid level is full and the motor seems to work fine other than the popping and sticking issue.

Can anybody shed any light on what might be causing this and how I should go about fixing it? Thanks in advance!

The motor is a mid to late 80's 70HP. I will have to get the exact year from my nephew.

Is there a bleeding process for the T&T System? How do you go about it?

I dont know about anything other than old OMC trims. We just filled it, operated it up and down a few times, filled it again. Make sure the manual release screw valve is tight, too. That's all I got.

Brand ?

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

I've never seen t-n-t make a popping sound. I have however seen a LOT of engines bind at the tilt tube. You need to back one of the nuts off just a turn on the tilt tube. There is too much pressure which is binding the movement between the clamp bracket and the motor midsection.

I'll look into this for him. Thanks for the direction!

Follow up on this - I loosened BOTH nuts and it had no effect on the problem. I am thinking I might need to have him take a short video of the problem so I can post it.
