I have never fished Fairfield. I have only heard about the lake here on the forum. For what I have read it was one super lake. fish

Bluegills are tough. Although the state has decided not to renew the red drum fishery the bluegill population should renew itself if the tilapia do not crowd them out. But it will take years to grow those big bulls.

I only got to fish the lake twice before the first big kill.

I fished Fairfield in the early 1970's when it first opened. We had to pull our flat bottomed boats in thru a muddy red road, and sit in line waiting for the gate to open. This was before the parks being built. There was one ramp and it could get rough in a heartbeat when the wind came out of the north. But we caught catfish, three pound crappie, and on an average day, 100 bass up to about four pounds. We caught "bream" by the hundreds. They put in the hybrids and they were fun on light tackle in the hot water discharge. They built the parks, built the two new ramps and the fishing remained very good for bass, catfish and of course bream. But the crappie had pretty much disappeared. I left for greener pastures before the redfish.

Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!

The reason the bluegills got so big there was feeding on the baby tilapia. It doesn't take sunfish long to grow with good feeding conditions.
